All 3 Stallions Awarded Life Status by 2 Leading Studbooks!

All 3 Stallions Awarded Life Status by 2 Leading Studbooks!

We are delighted and very proud to announce that both our homebred stallions Future Illusion and Future Gravitas, and our new stallion Vincent II have all been awarded Life Graded status by Sporthorse Breeding (GB), and Life Approved by the Anglo European Studbook (AES)..

This is a huge achievement and great accolade for all 3 boys. As well as providing confidence to breeders that they are choosing a quality stallion that has been recognised for it’s own performance or that of it’s offspring, it also enables mare owners who have been awarded SHB(GB) Broodmare vouchers to set the value of these against the stud fees of any of our stallions.

FSH Launches Exciting Partnership Programme!

Future Sport Horses has launched an innovative Partnership Programme to work with talented young riders

It is widely acknowledged that there is an issue with getting sufficient horsepower into the hands of talented young riders who have yet to catch the eye of enough owners to enable them to create a viable business as a full time competition rider.

It’s also widely acknowledged that breeders of talented young horses can struggle to find riders skilled enough to ‘make’ these young horses or are only able to send 1 or 2 horses away for production due to the costs. This results in many fantastic young horses never fulfilling their potential. Future Sport Horses have some of the most highly regarded bloodlines in event horse breeding – Hand in Glove, Power Blade, Grafenstolz, Cruising, Primitive Proposal, Fleetwater Opposition, Rock King, Duke of Hearts… and these youngsters come from exceptional motherlines which include 4* Event horses, Grand Prix showjumpers, WEG and Olympic medallists. We want to get these horses into the hands of capable riders so that these riders have horsepower with potential, and Future Sport Horses can give opportunities to shine to more of their horses.

On the Continent this problem is less acute as the equine breeding industry has a more prestigious standing and programmes exist to match young horses with talented and up and coming riders. In the UK efforts were made by the BEF through the Equine Bridge but this did not fully meet the need that exists to match horses with riders, or answer the questions on how the financial model of production could work, and is now sadly defunct as a result of the BEF ceasing to fund it.

In disciplines outside of eventing, and across in Ireland there are a handful of breeders already partnering with riders. At Future Sport Horses we are always looking for innovative ways to promote British Event Horse breeding and production and we have therefore looked to learn lessons from our successful counterparts in Europe. The production models adopted by key breeders such as Fritz Butts (who bred many of the German team horses from the last decade such as Butts Abraxxas, Butts Leon and Butts Avedon) included partnering with riders who had the skills to produce young horses but who had not yet made it to the ‘big time’ where they could fill their yards with paying owners horses.

We believe this partnership model could work well in the UK and published our proposals on our Facebook page and invited riders to contact us if they would like to work with us, where we can pool our joint resources to further both our aims. No money is required from riders to ‘buy in’ to our horses, instead we are looking to GIFT increasing amounts of ownership of the horse to the rider in return for their expertise in producing them. This a model already proven to work. The framework principles will remain the same across the horses we put into this programme with specific details tailored depending on the riders situation and horse offered. This is a win-win situation where the rider gains an increasing % stake in a horse which at the same time is also increasing in value – and good performances from the pairing will hopefully attract attention bringing more owners to the riders, and Future Sport Horses also benefit from having their talented horses out and competing without significant running costs.

As a result of our Facebook post about this programme we have been overwhelmed by expressions of interest from riders of all levels right through to 4*. We are now reading and considering all of the communications we’ve had and are looking to short list a selection of riders to have deeper discussions with.

We will keep you posted with progress!!

Future Gravitas is the No.1 Ranked Sire of Eventing Youngstock at the 2015 BEF Futurity Series!

We were very excited to get an invitation down to Bury Farm where the British Breeding Stallion Parade was taking place, to pick up the award for being the Leading Sire of Eventers at the Futurity for our young stallion Future Gravitas. It was an incredible achievement for him given he had only been at public stud for the first time the previous year, and so this was his first crop of foals presented to the Futurity. His stable mate, our senior stallion Future Illusion also won this award as a first season stallion in 2008, and again in 2009.

The award is based on the criteria used by the BEF which is the average of the top 5 scores, and was very kindly sponsored by the Competition Stallion Guide (in which both our boys are represented). Given Future Gravitas only had 6 youngstock forward for evaluation as it was his first commercial crop of foals, all but one score had to count for his average putting him at a significant disadvantage to some older stallions who had foals, yearlings, 2 year olds and 3 year olds whose scores could count, enabling them to cherry pick the best 5 scores to make up their average. Even with this handicap, Future Gravitas still managed to gain a higher average mark than all the other stallions from both Britain and Europe who had eventing stock presented.

Interestingly the No.2 ranked stallion in 2015 is Grafenstolz – Future Gravitas’s own sire. On the All Time Sire Rankings, Future Gravitas also ranks just above his sire, showing the power of genetics.

All Future Gravitas’s offspring received Higher First Premiums or First Premiums. This shows fantastic consistency and prepotency in the performance genes and their ability to be passed on. When you add into the mix that Future Gravitas’s dam has already produced multiple International horses, including an Olympic, World and Pan Am Games medalist, it gives you great hope that Future Gravitas will pass performance from BOTH sides of his pedigree.

Future Gravitas himself has already qualified for the BE Breeding 5 Year Old Championships by emphatically winning his section by over 5 marks, setting a 2015 British Eventing Record Dressage Score of just 17 penalties in the process.

Fingers crossed that both his performance and production continue as they have started!!

HM The Queen’s mare scanned in foal to Future Illusion!

We are absolutely delighted that HM The Queen has just had her lovely mare Stardust scanned in foal to Future Illusion.

Future Illusion has successfully competed in affiliated eventing, dressage and at County level in Showing. He is by the Elite trakehner stallion Fleetwater Opposition, out of a highly graded mare that descends from Jumbo’s sire Skippy, as well as the Grand Prix dressage stallion Demonstrator, and the legendary thoroughbred stallion Spiritus xx who sired an eventing dynasty.

Future Illusion is available via fresh semen at Balinmore Stud, or via chilled and frozen. He will be standing all season. His stud fee is £650 but there are concessions to proven sport and showing mares, and there’s a choice of terms – either LFG or 50% of the stud fee returned if your mare is not in foal 🙂
